A Message from Our Presidents:

Thank you to Local 23 members who voted in this Merger. Your time and participation were greatly appreciated. We made history today with two strong OPEIU local unions becoming an even stronger OPEIU Local 8. I'm looking forward to working with our sisters and brothers joining us from Local 23 in the very near future. We will make this transition as seamless as possible. Welcome to each of you! Kellie McGuire, President, Local 8

What an absolutely wonderful way to end one era and begin another. An overall mandate with 95% votes cast to merge. A special thanks to everyone on the Merger Committee. I am truly excited to move forward, together, as a proud and active member of Local 8. I look forward to our many opportunities of being part of a 6,000 member strong union. John L. Adams, President, Local 23

Nearly 1,000 OPEIU Locals 8 and 23 members have been in contract negotiations with Group Health Cooperative since early January. GHC has proposed drastic takeaways that include freezing wages for 3 years, eliminating the pension and extended illness bank, as well as, many other takeaways. Employees want to provide a quality experience for GHC patients and are concerned about how these proposed cuts will impact morale and quality care. Contract negotiations happen every Tuesday. The Union Bargaining Team asks OPEIU members at GHC to wear red every Tuesday to show support and solidarity for a fair contract. More information can be found here
