Local 8 Committees
Political Action Committee (PAC)
Organizes, coordinates and recommends to the Executive Board and/or membership any action on political candidates and political issues. Coordinates PAC fundraisers and get-out-the-vote campaigns. Meets monthly on the 1st Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. by Zoom.

Race, Equity and Social Justice Committee
The Race, Equity and Social Justice (RESJ) Committee works to support and empower marginalized workers. We know our fates are interconnected and many workplace injustices are rooted in racism and discrimination. We are committed to fighting for social and economic justice for all through training, educational resources, public advocacy, community organizing, and creating space for hard conversations. Together in solidarity we can work to end racism and all forms of oppression. Meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday at 6:00 p.m. by Zoom.
Hardship Fundraising Committee
Coordinates fundraising events for the Local 8 Hardship Fund. Meets as needed.

Grievance Review Committee
Hears appeals from members who disagree with the Union’s resolution or recommendation of their grievance. Meets on an as-needed basis. Three (3) experienced Shop Stewards are appointed by the President of Local 8 in accordance with the Standing Rule on Grievance Appeals.
Shop Steward Committee
Recommends member involvement activities, plans member education, and plans the yearly Steward/Leadership Conference. Plans and hosts monthly steward workshops the fourth Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. by Zoom.

Outreach, Engagement, Visibility Committee
Builds Local 8’s visibility and involvement in our communities. Enhance our outreach to constituency groups and cultivate Local 8’s “branding” strategy.

Young Workers Committee
The Young Workers Committee (YWC) is open to all Local 8 members under the age of 35. YWC seeks to empower, educate, and develop young leaders at Local 8. We seek to build community amongst each other and with the labor community at large. Together we can shape how young workers at Local 8 strengthen the labor movement at our workplaces, our Local, and beyond! The Young Workers Committee meets the 4th Monday of the month at 7p via Zoom.

Finance Committee
Reviews and makes recommendations on the Local 8’s financial/dues structure and budget. Meets 1-2 times a year.

Examines in detail the Bylaws of Local 8 and recommends any changes as needed. Meets on an as-needed basis.
