Samaritan Healthcare – Bargaining Update

Thank you for your feedback on our bargaining info sessions last week. Our bargaining team needs your experience and support with them in every session to win strong contracts.

We heard that retention of staff is not just about pay; it is about adequate staffing, the ability to recharge with PTO and fair, transparent processes with respectful leaders who follow through.

In our last bargaining session on Thursday, Sept. 17, we proposed:

  • Substantial cost of living increases for all job classes with market rate adjustments for job classes leaving Samaritan in large numbers for higher paying jobs.
  • Increases to PTO accrual rates that match Samaritan competitors like Confluence.
  • We also addressed member concerns about floating without compensation by proposing a float premium when staff must work outside of their home department.
  • And we remain firm in our position of improvements needed around attendance, sick time and discipline. Employees who are sent home from work or directed to stay home from work should not be disciplined with an attendance occurrence.

We are meeting with management again on September 29th to continue bargaining our new contract.

To win what you and your co-workers deserve takes more than informed proposals and well-reasoned arguments. It takes a strong, visible, and active union membership. Keep wearing your union buttons, showing support for your co-workers and if you have not joined yet, become a union member today by clicking here.
