Samaritan Healthcare – New Overtime Contract Language

To OPEIU Local 8 represented at Samaritan Healthcare
____

After months of bargaining and action to win better pay, we came to agreement on new contract language for
overtime on January 20, 2026.

What’s changing?

Before this agreement:
– Employees who worked 8-hour shifts earned overtime after 8 hours in a day. Employees who worked 10- or 12-hour
shifts did not earn daily overtime if they worked past their scheduled shift.
– Only part-time employees were receiving extra pay for picking up last-minute shifts
– Overtime was being converted to straight time when staff were put on low census stand by (LCSB).

What will be updated?

For the rest of the current contract:
– Employees working 10 or 12 hour shifts will earn overtime when they work beyond their regular shift.
– Employees who work extra shifts or hours beyond their scheduled time or FTE will receive premium pay.

When will this go into effect?

New language went into effect 2/1/26, the next full pay period after we came to agreement with management.

What if I pick up a shift then am put on LCSB (Low Census Stand By) later in the week and do not work my full 40+ hours?

Any hours worked beyond daily scheduled hours will be paid overtime, even if you are put on LCSB later in the week.

What if it is a UKG shift, picked up through the online system?

This also counts as overtime if the shift you pick up is in addition to your scheduled hours.

What if I take a shift in less than 24 hours?

You are entitled to overtime if you are part time or full time and are asked to come in to cover a shift in addition to your
scheduled hours.

Do mandatory trainings count toward overtime?

Mandatory trainings are considered working hours under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA), but those hours only
count as overtime after you have worked 40 hours within a week.
