Sea Mar – Taking Action for Our Contract Priorities

Negotiations for our next contract have continued. Although progress has been made in some areas, red flags appeared in others. We have serious concerns about Sea Mar Management’s position on important workplace standards.

To raise our concern and show them we’re serious about improving our workplace, we’re taking action. First, we are amping up efforts surrounding our petition to Management.

Sign today if you haven’t already, and encourage your coworkers to do the same. Our goal is to have as many members as possible behind this petition. Spanish translation now included.

At the bargaining table, we’re discussing staff retention, patient care, and job security. Sadie G., a DCR and Bargaining Team member, said Management is not validating our concerns and made an important point: “We are the issue experts.”

Sadie is right – we know what needs to improve at Sea Mar, and ‘leadership’ needs to listen.

She noted their attention is elsewhere: “It seems like management wants to focus on a few issues, such as put in [the contract] that staff can be disciplined in every single case where there is a problem.” It’s insulting that, as we try to focus on higher workplace standards, safety, and security, they want to prioritize discipline.

What do we do when management isn’t responsive to our concerns? We escalate. And we’re doing that through our petition and workplace organizing. The more members we have attending our weekly meetings and involved with the Contract Action Team, the better.

“All of us need to stand united if we want to see these major concerns improved in our contract,” said Becci G., Bargaining Team member and Financial Specialist.

Next, we will take our wage and economic proposals to the bargaining table.
