Message to OPEIU Local 8 members at Thurston County Juvenile Court sent March 26, 2026
__
After several disappointing bargaining sessions, Thurston County has presented their last, best offer regarding wage increases.
Their offer is:
- 1/1/26 – 1% across the board increase
- 1/1/27 – 1.5% across the board increase
- 1/1/28 – 1.5% across the board increase
The County can and should do better. We don’t need to settle for less, and this falls short.
Juvenile Detention Officers see it costs more money each day to put food on the table, gas in our cars, and heat in our homes. The County needs to at least match the cost of living (CPI), which currently is 3.1%, to allow detention officers to survive.
Since the County gave the Union its last, best offer – we are required to put this to a vote of the members in good standing of the Union.
VOTING INFO:
From 5 to 6 pm in the Visitation Room
- Thursday, April 2
- Friday, April 3
YOUR BARGAINING TEAM STRONGLY RECOMMENDS YOU VOTE NO. Send a message to the County Commissioners: You need to support the employees that support the County!
