Message to OPEIU 8 members in Trades Section sent March 6, 2026 –
__
We kicked off contract negotiations yesterday for our Trades Section Master Agreement covering office staff across more than 20 union offices.
Present for the employers were Cherika Carter, Shaunie Wheeler, Sean Bagsby, Ryan Paddock, and Tim Herbert.
Representing OPEIU Local 8 were Valarie Peaphon, Sarah Carr, Nina Daro, Kira Munson, Kathy Taylor, Denise Thom, and Corina Yballa.
Our OPEIU Bargaining Team showed up prepared. We presented a comprehensive set of proposals aimed at improving the existing contract, including proposals for increased pay, additional retirement contributions, more vacation accrual, other enhanced benefits like student loan assistance and childcare support, and better working conditions.
This bargaining process is an opportunity for the labor movement to live up to the values we all fight for every day: respect, fairness, equity, and dignity on the job.
The dedicated office staff covered by this agreement work tirelessly behind the scenes to support organizing, representation, and worker power across our movement.
Our next bargaining session is scheduled for Thursday, March 19th.
We will continue to keep you informed as negotiations progress. Thank you for your continued support and solidarity!
